SNOWCRAFT 2008

Each winter the Club runs a Snowcraft Instruction Programme.  This consists of three weekends away to Ruapehu or Egmont (with Friday night departures) and a weeknight evening session prior to each weekend.   It starts with Snowcraft 1 (SC1) which is for beginners and those wanting confidence for tramping and basic survival in snow conditions.   Snowcraft 2 (SC2) is Intermediate in level and includes basic rope work for alpine tramping and climbing.  Snowcraft 3 (SC3) is Advanced and includes more skills for mountaineering.   Each level (or equivalent) is a prerequisite for the next.

The weeknight sessions (Tuesday evenings) are an integral part of the programme.  Departure for the weekends is 5pm Friday night.  Saturday evenings are utilised as past of the programme.  Combined, a comprehensive instruction programme is presented.  Trainees in groups of 2-4 will team up with Club instructors for tuition and generally the same group will share hut chores.
