Located on spur on true left well above Pourangaki River at 850 m. A pleasant spot amongst the beech forest. Not so often visited, especially in winter. Tracks from the hut lead north via a swingbridge onto the Hikurangi Range and south onto the Whanahuia Range, travel further up the river is possible but scrub and waterfalls are obstacles to the tops. Access to track is over farmland which may be restricted, especially during lambing. Check with DOC, or be prepared to take the high (Purity) route. |
