| Map Coordinates: |

| Outlook: |
Just above bushline at 1350 m with direct access onto tops. Completely new hut erected 2006. Reached after about 2-4 hrs from Kawhatau flats, after a steep 300m climb over farmland (poled route), then a good track in the bush leads to the hut. Access continues onto the Hikurangi Range via Wooden Peg and Iron Peg to Mangaweka - the highest point in the Ruahine Ranges. Finding the hut in dense mist can be tricky while descending the spur from the tops. |
