Kime Hut: Tararua Ranges

Outlook: In basin above the bush line at about 1400m.  A haven from the elements above the bushline.
Number of Bunks: Four large sleeping platforms.

Cooking Facilities: None and water from Kime Tarn (often frozen over)
Heating: Nil!
Useful info: Built by Joe Gibbs c1930 of Field Hut fame and named after a founder of Tararua TC.(materials carried up by horse!).  Replaced by Vosseler Hut 25 minutes to north c1959, then rebuilt on current (original) site 1978. Buffeted by westerly gales.  Can be easily missed in whiteout conditions. Part of the classic southern crossing route. Sturdy but generally cold (no heating).
