Beginner Tramps

New to Tramping? Want to get back into tramping?
Our "Beginner Tramps" programme may be just what you are looking for.

Mobirise

Our programme involves a graduated series of tramps and workshops. Suitable for youth and above, those who've never tramped through to those who want to get back into tramping, our aim is to introduce you to tramping gradually.

The trip series begins with an easy low-land bush walk and progresses to exploring the tops of the Ruahine and Tararua Ranges. We walk as a group and at a pace to suit everyone on the day. Along the way you can participate in workshops and learn from our more experienced club members.
The next series of Beginner Tramps will start in February 2026 and is listed on our trip card. To find out about the workshops check out our club nights.

All trips depart from Milverton Park at 7:30am or 8am. We carpool to reduce carbon footprint, petrol share will be included in trip information (cash on the day to the driver). For more information see PNTMC trip planning.

* Following the Beginner Trips programme, if you are interested in continuing to tramp with PNTMC, we encourage you to look at easy and easy/medium trips and progress from there. Look out for trips such as Atiwhakatu hut, The Deerford Loop Track, Moonlight walk in the Gorge, Herepai hut, Sledge track / Toi Toi loop, The Escarpment Track, Hemi Matenga Scenic Reserve, Stanfield hut, Longview hut, Sunrise hut, Pinnacle ridge/ Donnelly’s Flat, Wharite track.
